Laying up Supper (and AGM) 2007.
This took place at Treo's restaurant on 23rd November.
Headlines are:
We are still solvent (just).
No nominations for officers posts, so incumbents remain in post for a further
year.
No change to subscription levels.
Cruising programme for 2008 was discussed and adopted.
Brief report on 2007 cruising programme revealed we had undertaken over 700
miles of passages in company, added several new foreign ports to our list of
places we have visited (and wish to return to) and we introduced new people to the sport
and new boats to our group.
Conway Trophy awarded to Kevin Hall for managing the cruisingprogramme but he
would like it to be dedicated to his father Jack who inspired him and persuaded
him to carry on with the work.
Most miles trophy was awarded to Jack Hall, who despite his ongoing fight
against cancer, still managed to not only join us for several trips this year,
but also spent some of his final weeks on board as we embarked on our most
ambitious European cruise to date.
Seamanship Trophy awarded to John Allen who completed his own shadow European
Cruise on the smallest club boat yet to have undertaken the trip, complete with
novice crew.
An enjoyable evening had by all and many thanks to Treo's for a splendid
meal in convivial surroundings.
Barbecue
2007.
In a change to previous arrangements, this year's barbecue was held on the
European cruise, on an island in the Gravelingmeer. John Lennard excelled
himself, working wonders with limited facilities, having demonstrated his unique
organisational skills, bringing most of the ingredients with him from UK.
Ably assisted by the Abu Dhabi contingent, (purveyors of fine wines and
champagne), we were spoilt by the fine fare provided using nothing more than
disposable barbeques, procured from the depths of Full Circle's cockpit lockers.
Barbecue 2006.
In a change to previous arrangements, this year's barbecue was held in Wix to
cater for the possibility of inclement weather and to make it more accessible to
those members without ready access to a boat.
This allowed people to stay on later and to imbibe more liberally than on
previous years. Day sails were offered on Sunday, but I think thick heads
prevailed!!
Laying up supper 2005
The evening started with an opening
address from the Commodore, Mike Doogan, and he welcomed Jack Hall as life
President of the club. Mike also reported that the membership fee will remain
at £5.00. John Lennard gave a Treasurers Report. No nominations were received
for committee posts, so the incumbents remain in place for another year.
After the meal a report was also
received from the Vice Commodore Cruising, Kevin Hall. The distance covered by
club events this year exceeded 1000 miles, with over 50 people joining in at
some point. Thanks were given to all those who had participated throughout the
year and plans for next year’s cruising were made available.
After the meal the Conway Trophy was
awarded to Deborah Cole for the Most Memorable Contribution for the year for her
attendance on most of the club events, her persistence and good humour in the
face of bouts of seasickness and, her ability to rise from the depths of slumber
to cater for her husband’s cravings for coffee etc at any time of day or night.
The Seamanship Trophy was awarded to
Paul Hockley (ably supported vocally by Sharon) for his 'Heavy Weather fore-deck
sail management' on the way to Burnham in a force 7 - 8.
An additional Trophy was awarded this
year for Most Club Miles and that was awarded to Jack Hall for approximately 500
miles.
We would like to
thank everyone at The Bell Inn Thorpe for our best meal yet, for catering for so
many of us and for a great evening.
