It was confusing. There were comings and goings, one way trips and new
arrivals at Burnham. A strange yellow orb was seen in the sky and the
winds were below gale force. There was an opportunity to air the Cross of
St George, (although it took the stupid fore-deck hand an age to get it up).
What was going on? Even the venue for the Burnham curry was changed
(much improved it has to be said).
The only constant was the the role call of boats. Irela, Full Circle
and Levanter once again holding the fort and spreading the gospel of Wix and
Wrabness to the masses of south Essex and Crouchians, as well as a multitude of
disinterested seals.
New crews were a feature however, bringing a new diversity and culture to
proceedings not experienced previously in 2008. Jenny is a complete convert to
Thai Green Tea and white tea with pomegranate. Kevin is converted to
champagne!!
The accidental discovery of a new improved curry house nearer to the
marina was a bonus allowing additional opportunities for creating thick heads
for the journey home.
Winds (and tides) were not quite so kind for the return trip, with Irela
opting for the long way round, not trusting the depth over the Spitway.
How did they manage to get back first? Possibly because they spent less
time fiddling about trying to beat against a foul tide. Oh.... the
foolhardiness of youth!!
